Richard E. Moot has practiced law for 50 years and is still going strong. After turning 65
Rit as his friends know him, embarked upon a new career as an elder lawyer, which
continues to occupy his interests and efforts in the active practice of law at 78 years of
age.
Rit Moot also continues a very active schedule in civic affairs. He serves
as treasurer and trustee of The Western New York Foundation, devoting a large amount of
time to the consideration of applications for charitable grants. He also plays an active
roll on the executive committee of the Better Business Bureau of Buffalo. As Director of
the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers, Rit represents the third generation of the
Moot family to serve that organization.
Rit can often be seen during the summer season sailing his 28-foot sloop,
Soubrette, out of the Buffalo Yacht Club. During the winter he plays in two regular tennis
foursomes. Rit and his wife, Barbara, who are beginning their 50th year of marriage, love
living in Buffalo year-round, departing only occasionally for brief visits with their sons
in California or her relatives in Jamaica.
They agree that Life is too busy and too much fun in Buffalo to think of retiring or
going south.
