Lois Helbig at 82 years young was named the Senior Citizen of the Year for 1997. She was honored for the time, energy and talents she contributes to the older adults of our area.
Despite cancer surgery and other medical problems Lois teaches Line Dancing to Senior
Citizens and physically challenged people. She also tap danced until she was 72,
performing at Nursing Homes and Day Care Centers. She is also a member of the Hawaiian
Dancers who perform locally.
Her fingers, as well as her feet, never sit still. She does craftwork, ceramics and
Lois has been volunteering at the Schiller Park Senior Center since 1981. She has
received several awards for her volunteerism.
Her 5 children and 10 grandchildren live outside of Buffalo.
She is an inspiration to all who come in contact with her.
