Talk with any person who has worked with Jurgen Arndt and more than likely they will all mention one special characteristic about the President and CEO of Niagara Lutheran Health System—his special way of caring for the residents and employees of Niagara Lutheran. Jurgen A. Arndt emigrated to the United States in 1963 after graduating from nursing school in West Berlin, Germany. Mr. Arndt joined the staff of Niagara Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center as a registered nurse in 1974 and became Director of Nursing in 1982. He was appointed Executive Director in 1990 and named President and CEO of the Niagara Lutheran Health System in 1996. Today, in his 26th year of service with Niagara Lutheran, he continues his special way of caring, backed by a team of health care professionals that share his dedication to caring for residents as if they were family.

Recently, Mr. Arndt’s leadership has been instrumental in the development of GreenField Campus in Lancaster, NY. The first stage of campus development was completed in October 1998 with the opening of the GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center. The next stage of development will be construction of independent living apartments and assisted living units. When completed, this continuum of care community will provide various levels of care in the family-like environment that Mr. Arndt believes is so important to residents and their families.

Even his relaxation gives evidence of Mr. Arndt’s purposeful life. He loves gardening and working with the soil, claiming gardening provides an opportunity to think and plan. The tender loving care he exhibits in caring for his yard is a reflection of the care he shows throughout his work at Niagara Lutheran Health System. Mr. Arndt lives in Akron, NY, with his wife Jacqueline. They have two children and four grandchildren.
